The Federation of Home Economics Teachers in Finland has 24 Member Associations, totalling 2300 members. The Federation was established in 1918.

The Federation of Home Economics Teachers

• maintains contacts with decision makers, persons with influence, civil servants and lobbyists
• communicates with the Home Economics Support Network in the Parliament - established in 1993
• promotes home economics profession and developes home economics education
• organizes in-service training for its members
• participates in international activities

Home Economics Teachers are employed in

• primary and secondary schools, vocational training institutes, polytechnics and universities
• home economics and consumer information services: management, planning and training
• business, trade and industry: marketing, product development and communications
• food service and cleaning systems: management and planning
• public relations, information media and editing
• public sector

The training of Home Economics Teachers started in Helsinki in 1891. Nowadays the members of the Federations include Home Economics Teachers, professionals with a Master of Education Teachers, prosessionals with Master of Education degree and Teachers in Vocational Training.
